Simply defined, e-waste is the waste generated from used electronic devices and household appliances which are not fit for their originally intended use and are destined for recovery, recycling and disposal. People use different terms to define “E-waste” as “electronic waste”, “e-scrap” and “end-of-life electronics” , IT Scrap etc.

IT Items – Laptops, Desktops, Servers, Switches, Monitors, Printers, Scanners, Telephones, Keyboard, Mouse and accessories like Cables, Wires, Toner etc

Appliances – ACs , Microwave, Fridges, Washing Machines, , TVs, PA equipment, Water Coolers, Geysers, Mobiles, IP Phones, Basic Phones, Electrical Panels Etc
Luminaires and Lighting - LED and CFL lights (unbroken) and fixtures, electrical wire and cables.

'Bulk Consumer' means bulk users of electrical and electronic equipment such as Central Government or State Government Departments, public sector undertakings, banks, educational institutions, multinational organisations, international agencies, partnership and public or private companies that are registered under the Factories Act, 1948 (63 of 1948) and the Companies Act, 2013 (18 of 2013) and health care facilities which have turnover of more than one crore or have more than twenty employees.

Any data file when gets deleted, actually it does not completely removed from the  system disk; only reference to the file gets removes and it is possible to recover the data from the original file using any softwares for “deleted file retrieval”. The only secure method to avoid such incidents by following three methods as:

  • Clearing: Overwriting the media
  • Degaussing : Magnetic erasure of the media
  • Destruction: Physical destruction of the media
